Released in May of 2024, Wuthering Waves (WuWa) was a highly anticipated mobile/PC Gacha Game with various action and adventure themes. Following the steps of the popular gacha game Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves heavily focuses on an open world exploration along with various unique characters. Unlike Genshin however, WuWa provides the player character with unlimited stamina when outside of combat as well as multiple terrain-based utility items for the player to explore without limitations. While being marketed as an Gacha Game, WuWa can be completed with just the free beginning cast without spending for additional characters. New players not only will have access to the entire open world filled with treasures, they will also be given additional in-game currency to use to their discretion.

WuWa, like many gacha games, emphasize the “pulling” of limited characters, with many different unique characters and a dynamic range of personalities, there is bound to be a character for everyone. Combat in WuWa is engaging, where player skill is roughly 60% of the battle. Strong characters with button mashing can get someone through most of the content, however with their in-depth combat system allows players to challenge themselves with timing parries and dodges when fighting enemies. These functions allow action-lovers to play the game to their desires while also allowing casuals to complete content.

In conclusion, WuWa is a game where I believe would be fun and engaging to a wide audience with many of its aspects and functions. However, as a Gacha game, it is important to play and spend with moderation in order to fully experience what the game have to offer, as burnout is a possibility in these game genres.
