A cat finally stepped indoors after many years of living on the streets, discovering a renewed hope for life.

An orange tabby, left behind and forgotten, had survived many harsh winters and frequent skirmishes on the streets.

A caretaker did everything she could to keep him fed and safe. When she noticed a wound behind his ear, she knew he needed more help than she could provide. For years, he evaded humane traps, but local animal rescuers never gave up on him.

About two months ago, he was finally brought to safety and given the care he had needed for so long.

Years spent outside had taken a toll on him. His ears were thick and scarred from old battles and untreated ear mites. His coat was filthy and matted, and he needed treatment for fleas and parasites along with much-needed dental care.

When the space he’d been promised fell through because he tested FIV-positive, The Stray Cat Club stepped up to take him in. “Seeing the photos of him broke us—how could you not want to love this big, handsome boy,” the rescue shared.

When he first arrived in foster care, he was understandably shy, keeping to himself in a corner as he tried to make sense of his new surroundings. But with attentive care, nourishing meals, and patience, he caught up on rest and began to heal. Slowly, he worked up the courage to trust again.

“After more than six years surviving as a stray, Barty (the cat) is finally ready to enjoy the good life permanently.”
