Is The Fantastic Four First Steps a good movie?

So last summer, me and my family were on a trip to Ohio. A new movie came out and it was called The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Personally, I was a bit skeptical of how this movie would do. A couple of Fantastic Four movies were released in the past, but they flopped in the box office. Fortunately, this one was a step up. Better choices for actors and more cohesive plot overall. Also, it is set in a different universe since too much is going on in Earth-199999, the default MCU universe.

Acting

Pedro Pascal was the star of show. Having portrayed the Mandalorian in Star Wars, he comes back with a spectacular, charismatic performance. The other actors and actresses have performed their characters well.

Behind the scenes

I can tell this movie took years and years to make. Kevin Feige, the father of the franchise, announced it in 2019. Production was stalled due to the pandemic. Initially, John Krasinski was cast in the role of Mr. Fantastic, and he played an alternate version of him in the second Doctor Strange movie. But then they decided to recast him with a much better actor. They also found a better director in 2022 before finally beginning to film in 2024.

Verdict

Overall, the movie was not terrible. I enjoyed the family dynamic with all the main characters. Galactus, the villain also was genuinely threatening. The movie however, had some problems. Silver Surfer’s gender was completely changed. Her design is too hard to be taken seriously. Galactus’s motivation was also absurd since he wanted the team’s baby for some reason. And Reed’s plan of teleporting Earth was, while good on paper, failed miserably. You know why it failed? As soon as everybody finished building those portals that would teleport Earth to an unknown place, they all got blown up!
