Hytale is a game by Hypixel Studios that recently released into early access. But the road to this release was filled with countless delays and controversies, all leading up to a monumentous launch. Hytale began development in 2015, with regular updates on it’s production. After a few years, however, the updates became very infrequent. Interest in the game slowly died down until 2020, when Riot Games, one of the largest and most respected names in the video game industry, invested millions of dollars into Hypixel Studios, and subsequently acquired the entire studio. This revitalized the excitement about the game. After deciding to do a revamp of the entire game engine in 2021, updates about the game’s development again slowed down. After 4 more years of anticipation, Riot Games announced in 2025 that the game was to be cancelled and Hypixel Studios would be closed. This sparked massive outrage as many people had been waiting for Hytale for over a decade now, and it was being cancelled after all this development time. But the original founder of Hypixel Studios,a Simon Collins-Laflamme, announced that he was in negotiations with Riot Games to buy back his studio along with Hytale. After a few months, Simon successfully re-acquired Hypixel Studios and immediately released a 15+ minute video of raw footage of the game, which was more footage than had been released in the last decade. Just 3 months after this acquisition by Simon, the game released into early access with the studio continuing to update the game based on community feedback. So far, Hytale has received 3 major updates. These updates contain significant bug fixes along with major new content additions. The approximately 3 million players who purchased the game patiently await these updates, as each one changes the gameplay and overall feel of the game, adding new places to explore and items to find.
